{"id":99856,"date":"2020-12-03T20:15:17","date_gmt":"2020-12-04T04:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.globaltrademag.com\/?p=99856"},"modified":"2020-12-03T20:15:17","modified_gmt":"2020-12-04T04:15:17","slug":"ofac-issues-venezuela-general-license-8g-extending-authorization-of-certain-transactions-for-u-s-oil-gas-companies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.globaltrademag.com\/ofac-issues-venezuela-general-license-8g-extending-authorization-of-certain-transactions-for-u-s-oil-gas-companies\/","title":{"rendered":"OFAC Issues Venezuela General License 8G Extending Authorization of Certain Transactions for U.S. Oil &#038; Gas Companies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Department of Treasury\u2019s Office of Foreign Assets Control (\u201cOFAC\u201d) issued\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/system\/files\/126\/venezuela_gl8g.pdf\">General License 8G<\/a> (\u201cGL 8G\u201d), which authorizes five (5) U.S. oil and gas companies to engage in transactions \u201cordinarily incident and necessary to the limited maintenance of essential operations, contracts or other agreements\u201d, as well as transactions necessary to the wind-down of operations in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltrademag.com\/bis-introduces-significant-restrictions-on-u-s-exports-to-china-russia-and-venezuela\/\">Venezuela<\/a> involving Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (\u201cPdVSA\u201d) or any entity which PdVSA owns a 50% or greater interest and that were in effect prior to July 26, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Effective November 17, 2020, GL 8G replaces and supersedes\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/system\/files\/126\/venezuela_gl8f.pdf\">GL 8F<\/a> which was set to expire on December 1, 2020, effectively extending its deadline through 12:01 eastern daylight time on June 3, 2021. GL 8G applies specifically to the following entities and their subsidiaries: Chevron Corporation, Halliburton, Schlumberger Ltd., Baker Hughes (a GE company), and Weatherford International, PLC.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, GL 8G\u00a0<u>does not\u00a0<\/u>authorize the drilling, lifting, processing of, purchase or sale of, or transport or shipping of any Venezuelan-origin petroleum or petroleum products. It does not authorize the provision or receipt of insurance for such transactions\/activities, or any work on oil wells or other infrastructure for the provision of goods or services.
